I finished reading The Trial last week. A couple of my old college roommates and I took up this book as it is on a list of must-read classic books. I was really disappointed. It wasn't at all captivating and had a very disappointing ending. In addition, it was translated from German and some of the sentences were quite awkward. It made me realize that I enjoy books written in English much more. Because I am a native English speaker, I can appreciate more the turn of phrase and intricately described scenarios from an English-speaking author than I can a foreign work that has been translated. That's one of the reasons I liked Heart of Darkness so much (see above).
