U.S. History: America & the Holocaust

One of the ideas mentioned with regard to World War II in the California State Standards for 11th graders is the following:

Standard 11.7.5
Discuss the constitutional issues and impact of events on the U.S. home front, including the internment of Japanese Americans (e.g., Fred Korematsu v. United States of America) and the restrictions on German and Italian resident aliens; the response of the administration to Hitler’s atrocities against Jews and other groups; the roles of women in military production; and the roles and growing political demands of African Americans.

While researching America's response to the Holocaust, I came across a timeline that was developed by PBS to go along with their film entitled America and the Holocaust.  It gives a good account of events regarding the Holocaust and America's knowledge.  Check out the timeline here.  Also, there is an article at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website that gives a good short summary of America's response to the Holocaust.
