Here is the website that takes you on a 3D tour of the Anne Frank House.  Really cool website--have a look around!  Also, here is a video of what actually happened to the family toward the end of the Holocaust.

World History for Wednesday & Thursday, March 2 & 3

1. Turned in the Hitler and Holocaust review and the Mussolini worksheet.
2. Took test on Hitler and Holocaust and the Russian Revolution and Stalin.
3. Read part of the Diary of Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel's book Night.  We actually listened to part of Night on a Playaway device that our library stocks.  These little gadgets are great and according to Mrs. Nielsen, very popular with students.

1. Review worksheet on Mussolini and Hitler.  This is due the day of your test.

1. I checked the Hitler and Holocaust review sheet and stamped the ones that were complete.  If you were absent, be sure to show me your completed sheet and I will stamp it.  The stamp is worth 10 points.
2. We then worked on an open-book practice test.  Open the two documents below:

World History for Friday, February 25

1. For all World History periods, don't forget that the Hitler and Holocaust Review Sheet is due on Monday, February 28.
2. Period 1 & 4 ONLY: I was absent today for a meeting, but Mrs. Castillo showed a video the people Oscar Schindler saved.  If you have a cleared, excused absence you will be excused from the video assignment.  If you absence is not excused, you will have earned a zero.
3. Period 6 ONLY: We played a review game that you can find in yesterday's blog entry.

1. Hitler and Holocaust Review Sheet:  Bring to class on Monday, February 28 completed.  I will be stamping it for 10 points if it is completed.  Students will turn it in on the day of the test (Wednesday, March 2 for periods 4 & 6 and Thursday, March 3 for period 1).

Auschwitz Article from Friday's NY Times

Interesting article from Friday's New York Times about the Auschwitz concentration camp today.  We've been discussing the Holocaust in World History and I would love to one day lead a tour there with students.  The article discusses how the grounds are evolving into a tourist destination and how the caretakers of the former camp see its use in the future.

2. Journal #5 is here.  Journals will be due on Friday, February 25.  They must be typed.  On journals 2-5, I'm looking for your answers to be about a paragraph-long for each question.  These questions require very thoughtful responses.

World History for Friday, February 11

1. Period 1 ONLY: finished Animal Farm and turned in question sheet.  Then on a separate piece of paper, students chose a word to describe life under Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union.  They were then to write a paragraph explaining why they chose that word and give specific examples in Russian history.
2. Periods 4 & 6 ONLY: watched the first 45 minutes of Schindler's List.

World History for Friday, January 28

1. Played a Rock, Paper, Scissors game to introduce Karl Marx's theory of capitalism and socialism.
2. Copy the notes from a classmate.

World History for Wednesday and Thursday, January 26 & 27

1. Handed out the Schindler's List permission slip. It's due no later than Friday, February 4th, but bring it in as soon as possible so we can get your name checked off!
2. Took benchmark #2.  If you missed it, you must take the make-up on Thursday, February 3 at lunch in my classroom.  If you don't show up, you will have a permanent zero on that test.
3. Finished the Progression of the Holocaust sheet.  Be sure to complete that if you were absent.

World History for Monday, January 24

1. Reviewed the 6 Characteristics of Fascism.
2. Began examining the Progression of the Holocaust.  We will continue working on it next time.

World History for Friday, January 7

1. Discussed the Six Characteristics of Fascism.  Print out the sheet and review it if you were absent.
2. Read an excerpt from one of Adolf Hitler's speeches then answered 5 questions about it.  I do not have an electronic copy of this so if you were absent, see me for a copy.

World History for Wednesday & Thursday, January 5 & 6

1. Students received their PSAT booklets and scores from their October 13th test. 
2. We then went to the lecture hall where the counselors explained the results.  You can visit www.collegeboard.com/quickstart to see more about the PSAT and the SAT including a helpful study planning guide.
3. After we returned to class, I lectured on a chart that helped to explain why people chose to follow Adolf Hitler.  Copy the chart from a classmate when you return.
4. Students completed the worksheet Hitler's Rise in Government.  Students kept the sheet after completing it.
