  1. I collected the assignment that was for homework Monday night.  If you were absent, be sure to turn it in.

  3. In period 3 we viewed a video about a man who was against the Vietnam War and he discusses his reasons for being against it.

U.S. History for Monday, March 21

  • Period 2 ONLY: Civil Rights Pre-Test.  Be sure to copy notes from a classmate if you were absent.
  • Period 3 ONLY:  
    • Notes on Civil Rights. Copy from a classmate if you were absent.
    • Homework: Using pages 710-711, read about the Freedom Rides and the integration of Ole Miss.  Then answer:
      • 1. What happened in this event?
      • 2. What did African Americans gain as a result of this event?
    • Finished Happy Daze video and answered questions 6 and 7 and turned them in.  Be sure to watch that video and answer the questions.  Here is the excerpt below.

  • Period 2 ONLY: Telephone charades game for the Cold War and Civil Rights vocabulary.
  • Period 3 ONLY:  Civil Rights pre-test that demonstrated segregation.  There were also some notes and a chart that you will need to copy from a classmate if you were absent.

  • Period 2 ONLY: Completed the Cuban Missile Crisis activity (students turned in their responses) and began watching the video Poisoned Dreams.
  • Period 3 ONLY: Completed the Cuban Missile Crisis activity (students turned in their responses), watched part of Poisoned Dreams and learned the new vocabulary words with the telephone charades vocabulary game.
Here are the Poisoned Dreams questions.  Be sure to print them out and use the video below to answer the questions.

    1. Returned old papers.
    2. Complete and turn in 1950s popular culture worksheet.
    3. Watched the Happy Daze video and completed the questions.  See the video and questions in yesterday's blog entry.
  1. Period 3 ONLY:
    1. We had a sub because I am out sick so there was a video on Hiroshima and a video on the Dustbowl.  If you have an excused absence from that day, you will be excused from the assignments.  If you have an unexcused absence, you will receive a zero.

U.S. History for Friday, March 4

  1. Period 2 ONLY: Reviewed the Cold War terms activity, then took notes on the causes of the Cold War.
  2. Period 3 ONLY:  Worked on a worksheet about fear of communism in the 1950s.  Students will be turning this in on Monday, March 7.  Then we had a few notes on John F. Kennedy's rise to the presidency.

  1. During the first hour, we attended the World's Fair in the gym.
  2. We played the "Secret Dot Game" and experienced what it was like to accuse and be falsely accused during the McCarthy era.  We will learn about McCarthy in class on Friday.

  1. Test on World War II.  The only time to make that up will be Wednesday, February 23rd at lunch in my classroom.  Failure to show up for the make-up test will result in a permanent zero.
